The Yankees announced on the 6th (Korean time) that they had hired Omar Minaya (64), former general manager of the New York Mets, as a senior advisor.
Minaya, who started his front career as a scout for the Texas Rangers, discovered Sammy Sosa in 1984 and received high praise.
In exchange for scouting Sosa, Minaya, who was promoted to international scouting executive at Texas, moved to New York Mets assistant general manager in 1997.
In 2002, he was promoted to general manager of the Montreal Expos (predecessor to the Washington Nationals).
Minaya is the first person from Latin America to become the major league general manager.
Minaya, who served as the Mets general manager from 2004 to 2010, served as an advisory committee member for the Players Union from 2015 to 2017 and as a scouting consultant for the Major League (MLB) Secretariat last year, gaining various experiences.
