The Korean women’s volleyball team (ranked 24th in the world) failed to hold on to the deuce again. Korea finished week one of the FIVB Volleyball Nations League (VNL) 2023 with four losses.
Head coach César Hernández’s side fell 0-3 (17-25 26-28 21-25) to Thailand (ranked 14th in the world) in the fourth match of Week 1 at the Antalya Sports Hall in Turkuye on Thursday (4 April).
With the loss, Korea ended Week 1 with four defeats without winning a set, losing to USA, Canada and Thailand, all 0-3.먹튀검증
Korea had an evenly matched effort with Park Jung-ah scoring 14 points, Moon Ji-yoon nine, and Lee Ju-ah eight, but it wasn’t enough to get the win.
Their inability to convert the decisive deuce into a set was repeated this time.
After dropping the first set easily, 17-25, the Koreans took the second set in their favour. At a crucial moment, Park’s winner gave the Koreans a set point at 24-23.
However, a service error and a lapse in defensive concentration allowed the Koreans to tie the game at 26-26, and they lost two consecutive points to lose the second set.
After falling behind in the decider, they struggled to get back on their feet, and while they managed to get to 20-20 in the third set, they conceded five points while scoring one to end the match with a 0-3 shutout loss.
Korea also had a tough time against the USA on the same day, squandering two points in the second set after creating a 25-25 deuce.
They also had a 24-24 deuce in the third set of the first match against Turkiye, but were unable to convert it into a set win.
The Koreans will have to be stronger in their deuce games as they look to get their first win in the second week of the VNL against Brazil on the 15th, Japan on the 16th, Croatia on the 17th and Germany on the 19th.
